About

We Don't Just Write Grants. We Help Build Organizations That Keep Winning Them.

Seward Duncan Consulting is a partnership of grant and organizational development consultants working remotely with nonprofits across the United States, helping you build the systems, relationships, and infrastructure behind sustainable funding.

Our Track Record
$15M+

In awarded grant funding, local and national private foundations, and local, state, and federal government awards.

$300K → $2M

Built a grant program that grew one organization's annual revenue from $300,000 to $2 million.

Responsive

A reputation for being responsive, authentic, and transparent, because funding relationships are still relationships.

Numbers aside, what we're most proud of is being trusted with the parts of an organization that don't show up in a grant report: the stretched staff, the hard seasons, the quiet worry about whether it'll all hold together.

We've been trusted with that, and we don't take it lightly.

Our Approach

Most consultants stop at the proposal. We start there.

We work with you to build the organizational structure a successful application actually requires, clear policies, reporting systems, and program language that funders trust. We've project-managed financial and programmatic reporting alongside internal and external finance teams and program leads, so nothing falls through the cracks between the win and the report due nine months later.

And because funding is ultimately about relationships, we place emphasis on helping you build genuine connections with the funders who align with your mission, not just applying and hoping.

Building a strong foundation is how you make the mission last.

Meet the Team

Before any of this, we were the ones doing the work. A therapist. A social worker. That's still how we read every program we write about — noticing the outcome that's harder to measure but matters more, the caseload realities that don't show up in a logic model.

Portrait of Jason Seward

Jason Seward

M.A., Professional Counseling

Principal Consultant

Jason brings ten years of clinical experience working with children and adults facing severe and persistent mental health diagnoses, first as a caseworker, then as a therapist. That background gives him a rare ability to translate clinical needs and outcomes into the language funders actually respond to, and to build program and outcome plans that connect directly to universal funding priorities. He also liaised between clinical teams and a third-party database company to build and support a case management system, experience that shapes how he thinks about your internal systems today.

Mikayla Duncan

M.S.W.

Principal Consultant

Mikayla's background is in social work, with direct experience advocating for survivors of sexual violence and trauma. That experience shapes how she writes — translating program impact into language that reflects best practice for the people you serve, and holding a clear conviction: nonprofits can meet a funder's need for data and story without exploiting the people behind it. She helps organizations find the version of their impact that's honest and compelling, without costing a client their privacy or dignity to tell it. She also brings a background in healthcare marketing and communications, which she uses to help nonprofits align their messaging with their mission.

Why It Works

Senior-level expertise without the overhead.

We're a flexible, contract-based partnership that adapts to your organization's emerging needs, which means you get senior-level expertise without the overhead of a full-time hire, and without losing the personal, responsive relationship that nonprofit work deserves.
